News and Views

We received news last Saturday that Wilbur Readdick was recovering from a fall.  Joyce said he is slowly improving and expected to remain another 2 weeks for treatment before being released to go home.  Wilbur is the oldest alumni of the Old Woodbine School.  The Readdick’s reside in St. Marys, Ga.  Let’s keep them both in our prayers.

Committee Member Bettie Lee Cottle is recuperatiing at home following a few days of hospitalization for health issues. She would love to hear from her friends at P. O. Box 206, Woodbine, Ga. 31569.


After the monthly meeting in November, we celebrated with committee member Goldie McCullers, her birthday (11/22), with cake and fellowship in the snackroom of the old school.

10-16-16  —  from Tracy Davis, Tarpy’s daughter-in-law
Mrs. Janis Davis, Tarpy, went home to Jesus this afternoon (10-15-16). Chris Davis and Aunt JoAnn Flanagan were with her. She waved Goodbye to the grandkids as we left this morning, and said she was sure she would be in heaven when she died. Thank you all for your continued prayers for Jim, Kelly Davis,Chris Davis and the rest our family

10-14-16   Update on Tarpy Davis: Tarpy is at Memorial Hospital in Jesup and will be moved today to Hospice House Savannah for her care. Please continue to pray for her strength, rest, and wisdom in decisions to be made about her care.

10-10-16  —  The October meeting scheduled for tonight has been cancelled until a later date.

10-6-16  —  Due to Hurricane Matthew, there will be no Opry performances either Friday or Saturday this week.

Due to tropical storm Hermine, there will be no opry on Friday 9-2-16.


After the monthly meeting in July, the committee gathered to have a little fun and cake, celebrating the birthday of Alice Murray.  Happy 81, Alice!

Updating the status of Tarpy Davis, she is going through a therapy program in a facility in the Savannah area.  She sure is looking forward to getting out of there soon.  Please remember her.

Tarpy Davis is once again in the hospital in Shands in Jacksonville with more health issues and is undergoing more tests. Let’s continue to keep her in our prayers and send cards to her.

Following this month’s regular meeting we all went in to the snack room and celebrated Jo Frances’ birthday with cake.  Happy Birthday Jo Frances Connolly.

Update on Tarpy:  (6-10-16)She is out of the hospital and recovering at home.  Let’s continue in our prayers that she makes a speedy recovery.  

Committee member Tarpy (Janis) Davis is undergoing surgery this morning.  Let’s keep her in our thoughts and prayers.  We’ll keep you updated on her condition as we receive information.

Beginning the first week of June, the doors to The Woodbine Opry will not be opened until 6:00pm.  

This applies to both the Friday and Saturday programs.

We received news today that Burford Clark is in St. Vincent’s Hospital recovering from triple by-passes.  Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Betty Lee Cottle, our oldest committee member, will be celebrating her 90th birthday this Sunday.  Her family is having a birthday party for her in the Old School cafeteria on Sunday November 1 between 2-4PM.  All friends are invited to stop by and wish her a happy birthday.

Good news, Lois Cooper is now back at home!  She is so happy to be back home and is getting along well, and today is her birthday.  So, Happy Birthday to you, Lois.  We hope you can rejoin us real soon.

Committee secretary, Lois Cooper, is still in rehab in St. Marys.  She is undergoing physical therapy and hopes to be released in another week or two.  She would welcome your visit or phone call.

Also, news received this morning that Burford Clark is in the hospital in Brunswick but hopes to be released yet today, 10-1-15.  We hope to see his smiling face back with us real soon.

  2. Get well wishes go out to committee member Jo Frances Connolly. She spent a week in the hospital in Brunswick and is at home recovering from her illness. Cards may be mailed to her at 2518 Harriett’s Bluff Road, Woodbine, Ga. 31569.

    We understand she is in good hands with Hal.☺

    In Jo Frances’ absence, we thank Lois Cooper, Harriett Hogan, Barb Henry, and Cleo Chesser for keeping the snack room well staffed and running.

  3. Our condolences to committee member Bettie Lee Cottle with the passing of her son David Edgar Cottle, age 62. Services arrangements are visitation Sunday, March 1, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland from 5-8:00PM, and graveside service 2:00PM Monday, March 2 at Colesburg Cemetery in Woodbine, Ga. Sympathies and cards may be mailed to Bettie Lee at P.O. Box 206, Woodbine, Ga. 31569.

  4. I just called Bettie Lee at home this afternoon. She said she got home from the hospital this past Friday and that the hospital was no place to get better and is so glad to be out of there. She has family with her taking care. We’re hoping she gets back to the old school and on the job working the museum room very soon.

  5. Just wanted to let you know that Bettie Lee Cottle was admitted to the hospital in Brunswick this past week. We’re not sure how long she will be in there.
    Also, Ivy Sapp’s husband, Willie, suffered a heart attack yesterday. He went to the hospital in St. Marys and they transferred him to Shands. Will keep you posted on updates as we learn them.
